Grand Opening September 18, 2009

Providence Creek Academy Charter School, in Clayton, Delaware celebrates the opening of their new facility with a Gala. Officials from the school welcome State and local dignitaries, including Senator Tom Carper, who was instrumental in assisting PCA obtain the property on which to build the three building campus.

Board President Joan Messick, Managing Director Charles Taylor, Principal Audrey Erschen, and Director of Curriculum Andrea Spence expressed their thoughts on the school’s new facility before the crowd of students, parents, staff and community members. Through conduit bond financing approved by Kent County Levy Court, the school worked in conjunction with PNC Bank, USDA, and Integrated Construction Services to complete the project.

During the summer, parent, Dorothy Lewis, who is currently in Iraq, presented the school with a flag which was flown over Iraq. The flag was raised during the ceremony by her daughters, Juliann and Tinashe Lewis. Retired U.S. Army 1st Sg. William E. Bullock assisted the children. Ms. Lewis said via phone on Wednesday, “I am proud to have my children attend such a wonderful school and I am happy to have them be part of this event”.

Providence Creek Academy is a charter school for students in grades kindergarten through eight. PCA focuses on Academics, Athletics, and the Arts. This focus allows teachers to educate the whole child. The goal of the staff is not just teaching children subject matter; it’s educating the child to become a better citizen inside and outside of the classroom.

We believe in a disciplined climate and high expectations for our children. Our staff has strong relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and administration; this approach promotes helpful interactions that positively affect our community. PCA is a close-knit family in which communication is constant and always evolving.

Our collegiate-styled campus allows for an extension of the classroom beyond four walls. Our students travel between buildings to attend classes in art, music, foreign language, physical education, health, library, and technology. The vast landscape allows for exploration and discovery of the world around us.
